Seniors v Ballaghaderreen – Match Report

Ballaghaderreen 0-15 Davitts 0-15

Ballaghaderreen, already promoted, hosted a Davitts team, sitting at the bottom of the table, in their final Senior League Div 2 match on Saturday evening. After a good competitive game, a share of the spoils was a fair outcome.

Ballagh wing back David McBrien shot the opening score in the 2nd minute with Cian Hanley and Thomas Carmody extending the lead with points in the 11th and 12th minutes. The lively Evan Ronane got Davitts off the mark in the 14th minute with Josh Ronayne firing over two minutes later. Joe Dillon and Barry Regan for Ballagh and Josh Ronayne for the visitors pointed to leave Ballagh ahead by two with ten minutes remaining in the first half. Josh Ronayne in the 25th minute and Brian Clarke a minute later, pointed to level the game but late points from Barry Regan and Andy Moran left the homeside ahead by 0-7 to 0-5 at the break.

Josh Ronayne opened the second half scoring with a point in the first minute but Andy Moran and Barry Regan points in the 4th and 6th minutes extended Ballagh’s lead to three points. Two neat Evan Ronane points in the next minute showed that the visitors had no intention of lying down. Sean McHugh for Ballagh and Evan Ronane for Davitts traded points before a brace from Joe Dillon saw the homeside lead by three points as the game entered the final quarter.

Aidan McTigue narrowed the gap to two in the 17th minute, a score that was cancelled out by Joe Dillon a minute later. Josh Ronayne and Ballagh sub Kuba Callaghan traded points in the 19th and 21st minutes. Davitts, boosted by the introduction of substitute Michael Conroy, began to power forward and three points in a two minute spell from Aidan McTigue (2) and Michael Conroy left the sides level with five minutes remaining.

Joe Dillon put Ballagh ahead again in the 27th minute with a point that was cancelled out by Josh Ronayne a minute later. This proved to be the final score of an entertaining match.
