Davitts recent good form in the Senior League Division 1A continued on Sunday with a fine home win over Ballinrobe. Davitts got off to a flyer and scored the first three points in the opening five minutes while playing into the wind, with Michael Conroy, Fearghal McGrath and Ronan McNamara hitting the target. Stephen Burke from play and two Alan Murphy frees levelled it for the visitors. Two fine Mark Walkin points and another Murphy free for Ballinrobe and Davitts scores from Conroy, Aidan McTigue and Ronan McNamara left the sides level at half time, 0-6 each.
Davitts upped the tempo considerably in the second half with Tommy Nolan, Alan Roche, Colm Boyle, Ronan McNamara, Paul Carey, Fearghal McGrath, David McDonagh and Michael Conroy in outstanding form. They tagged on some excellent points from Carey, Boyle, McTigue, McGrath and Conroy, with Murphy (2) and Stephen Burke replying for Ballinrobe, before Davitts full forward David McDonagh sealed the victory with a cooly taken point.
Best for Ballinrobe were Rory Keane, Eugene O Malley, Ronan Macken, Sean Grimes, Stephen Murphy, Mark Walkin and Alan Murphy.
Davitts have given themselves a great chance of survival in this division after winning their last three games, while Ballinrobe are one of several teams that will be scrapping for points as the league reaches its closing stages.
