Senior League v Swinford match report

Swinford 1-6  Davitts 4-10

Davitts Seniors secured a morale boosting League win away to Swinford on Saturday evening. From the outset it was obvious that the Davitts lads were well fired up for the challenge and an early Fenton Kelly goal after excellent approach play by Niall Treacy and Darragh McGale set them on their way in the second minute. Two minutes later Davitts were awarded a penalty after a foul on Niall Treacy but the Swinford keeper saved well from Josh Ronayne. Swinford pointed in the fifth minute but Davitts took command and points from Jack Ronayne and Josh Ronayne (2) and an opportunistic goal from Darragh McGale left the visitors ahead by 2-3 to 0-1 at the first water break.

Swinford added two points to their tally before half time and an Evan Ronane point and a second Darragh McGale goal put Davitts into a ten point lead at the half time break. Both sides were guilty of some poor shooting as a number of good scoring chances were spurned.

Evan Ronane and Tommy Waldron hit early second half points for Davitts and Swinford replied with a 35th minute goal. A 38th minute Jack Ronayne point was cancelled out by a similar Swinford score three minutes later. Davitts outscored the homeside by 1-3 to 0-2 in the final quarter, the points coming from the boots of Josh Ronayne (2) and Cathal Hennelly with Niall Treacy bagging the goal after great work by Fenton Kelly and Cathal Hennelly.

Davitts had great performances from Thomas Ronayne, Tommy Waldron, Dmitry Trench, Ronan McNamara (making a welcome return after a lengthly layoff), and the forward sextet who linked very well throughout.
