Senior League v Kilcommon match report

Kilcommon 2-9  Davitts 0-11

Davitts Senior’s long journey to Glenamoy on Saturday evening proved to be a futile one as the homeside made light of the miserable climatic conditions to claim the two Division 3 league points on offer.

Kilcommon, played with the assistance of the strong wind in the first half, led by 1-3 to 0-2 at the first water break, the goal coming from the penalty spot in the 12th minute. Josh Ronayne and Keith Prendergast scored the two Davitts points.

Kilcommon, dominating the middle third of the pitch, added four points to their tally before halftime with Shane Treacy and Keith Prendergast replying for Davitts. A Kilcommon goal at the start of the second half left the visitors with a mountain to climb. The second half was extremely messy and the stop start nature of the game suited the home side. They led by 2-7 to 0-6 after the third quarter as Davitts couldn’t make any progress against a very rugged defensive home set-up.

Davitts really needed a goal but had to settle for points as the Kilcommon lads defended well. Davitts shot five points in the final quarter via Josh Ronayne (3), Cathal Hennelly and Aidan Macken but Kilcommon held on for a well deserved victory.

Best for Davitts were Keith Prendergast, Kieran Fahy, Josh Ronayne, Jack Ronayne, Shane Treacy and Niall Treacy.
