Senior League v Ballinrobe match report
Davitts 0-12 Ballinrobe 2-11
An impressive first half showing set the foundations for Ballinrobe’s victory over Davitts in this Senior League Div 1B tie played in Ballindine on Saturday evening.
Evan O Brien opened the scoring with a converted 45 in the first minute. Dylan Gallagher equalised in the 8th minute. Kevin Quinn, the man of the match, fired home Ballinrobe’s first goal in the ninth minute with a clinical strike. Davitts responded well with two fine points from Fenton Kelly and Evan Ronane in the next two minutes but the visitors struck again for their second goal in the 12th minute. After Davitts defender Charlie Phillips had saved what looked like a certain goal for Ballinrobe, a loose pass was intercepted by the lively Joseph Burke and he made no mistake to finish from close range to put his side four points ahead. Davitts had three clear cut goal chances of their own in the first half but poor finishing on each occasion would prove costly. Evan O Brien and the outstanding Kevin Quinn extended the Robe lead to six points before Jack Devane pointed for Davitts in the 18th minute. Points from Evan O Brien and Kevin Quinn for the visitors were cancelled out by two from Niall Treacy and Evan Ronane before the break to leave Ballinrobe ahead by 2-5 to 0-6 at halftime.
The young Davitts side came out very pumped up for the second half and three unanswered points from Dylan Gallagher, Evan Ronane and Jack Devane narrowed the deficit to two points by the 40th minute. Kevin Quinn and Joe Burke shot two quickfire Ballinrobe points in the 46th and 47th minutes. Niall Treacy and Kevin Quinn exchanged points before Dylan Gallagher hit a 54th minute point for Davitts but Ballinrobe were defending stoutly as the homeside threw all they could at them. Evan O Brien, an excellent place kicker, pointed in the 56th minute and Kevin Quinn fired over two excellent long range points before the final whistle with Fionnan Gallagher getting the final point for the homeside.
