Senior League Div 1B v Kiltane match report

Kiltane 1-14  Davitts 1-6

Davitts were well beaten by a Kiltane side that produced a fine second half performance, in this Senior League Div 1B tie played in windy Bangor on Saturday evening.

Kiltane, wind assisted in the first half, got off to a good start with points in the first and fifth minutes. Niall Treacy pulled one back for Davitts in the 9th minute. A 10th minute point for the homeside was cancelled out by Dylan Gallagher two minutes later. Kiltane pointed again in the 13th minute and when they were gifted a goal from the resulting kickout to go five points clear, Davitts looked like they were in serious trouble. This could easily have been worse but for two excellent saves by Tristan Diskin the Davitts keeper. Jack Melvin, Davitts impressive young midfielder, pointed a 45 in the 16th minute but Kiltane replied with an 18th minute point. Davitts were playing well now and a brilliant move involving Evan Ronane, Brian Og McTigue, Dylan Gallagher and Niall Treacy was finished to the net by Jack Melvin in the 22nd minute. A Shane Treacy point followed to reduce the deficit to a single point. Kiltane pointed twice before the break with Niall Treacy firing one over for Davitts to leave the Erris side ahead by 1-7 to 1-5 at halftime.

Kiltane knew they needed to up their performance in the second half facing into the stiff wind and they responded accordingly. They got on top in most sectors and extended their lead to three with a 34th minute point. Shane Treacy pulled one back for Davitts in the 37th minute but this amazingly was his side’s only score of the second period. The homeside fired over six unanswered scores before the final whistle as they saw the game out very well, frustrating the visitors, to the delight of their vocal supporters.
