Senior League 3B v Hollymount Carramore match report
Hollymount Carramore 2-5 Davitts 0-9
Davitts will be wondering how they managed to lose this Senior League Div 3B match played in Hollymount on Friday evening. After a well-contested first half, with the locals leading by 1-3 to 0-4 at the break, Davitts dominated most of the second half but were guilty of some wasteful shooting and two injury-time points for Hollycarra saw them win the tie.
After Hollycarra opened the scoring in the 2nd minute, three Davitts points from Michael Conroy and Fearghal McGrath (2) put Davitts ahead by the eleventh minute. Two points from the homeside in the 16th and 17th minutes levelled matters before Michael Conroy shot over in the 23rd minute. A 28th minute Hollycarra goal gave them a two point lead at the interval.
The crucial score came in the 38th minute. Davitts strung together a great move which ended in Cian Naughton appearing to be swung to the ground as he was about to shoot for goal. Everyone in the ground expected a penalty to be awarded but the ref saw things differently. The home team took full advantage of their lucky break and immediately counter attacked and scored a well worked goal to extend their lead to five. Davitts were fired up now, taking complete control, and points from Fearghal McGrath (2), Michael Conroy and Keith Prendergast (2) levelled matters with four minutes remaining. Poor shooting though was to prove costly. Hollycarra finished the game well with two late points to secure the win.
Best for Davitts were Patrick Keadin, Brian Birmingham, Brian Clarke, Burke Briere, Cian Naughton, Ronan Kelly (who was having a great game up to his retiral through injury in the first half), Fearghal McGrath, Michael Conroy and Keith Prendergast.
