Senior League 1A v Knockmore match report
Knockmore 2-15 Davitts 2-6
Davitts made the journey to Knockmore on Friday evening for this Senior League Div 1A clash but found the home side too strong, suffering a nine point defeat.
The home side dominated the first half and led by 1-9 to 0-2 at half-time, after playing against the wind. Knockmore’s lively forward-line had the Davitts defence in trouble with their clever movement. Niall Treacy and Dylan Gallagher were the Davitts scorers in that half but Knockmore were dominating the aerial exchanges in the middle third and their players were much sharper to the breaking ball.
Davitts improved considerably after the break and an early point followed by a goal from the wily Michael Conroy, a second half sub, gave the visitors some hope. The goal came in the 33rd minute after some intricate play involving Colm Boyle, Thomas Ronayne and Mark Birmingham. Knockmore responded well and they shot three points in the next ten minutes before Davitts scored again, a 44th minute Dylan Gallagher point. A minute later, Knockmore wrapped up the win when they converted a penalty. A 47th minute Niall Treacy point for a battling Davitts team was cancelled out by the local side five minutes later. A Dylan Gallagher point and a superb Jack Devane goal, after a fine passing move, narrowed the gap to seven points with five minutes remaining but Knockmore finished off the game with the final two scores in the 59th and 63rd minutes.
Davitts had good performances from Cian Naughton, Mark Birmingham, Jack Melvin, Charlie Phillips, Fionn McLoughlin, Niall Treacy and Michael Conroy.
