Ballinrobe 2-13 Davitts 1-11
Ballinrobe hosted Davitts in the first round of the O Mara Cup on Saturday with the homeside winning an exciting match by five points.
Ballinrobe got off to a flying start with a goal after thirty seconds. They had added two points to their tally before Evan Ronane (2), Josh Ronayne, Shane Treacy and Jack Ronayne pointed for Davitts to tie the game after fifteen minutes. Ballinrobe played some superb football in the second quarter and they kicked four unanswered points and a goal in the 29th minute to race into a seven point lead. Jack Ronayne and Darragh McGale pointed for the visitors just before the break leaving Ballinrobe ahead by 2-6 to 0-7 at halftime.
Ballinrobe opened the second half scoring with a fourth minute point to extend their lead to six points before Davitts played their best football of the evening. Shane Treacy pointed in the fifth minute and the same player and Darragh McGale combined three minutes later for a well taken McGale goal. Davitts spurned a number of good goal chances but two points from Evan Ronane in the 11th and 12th minutes levelled the game. Ballinrobe took control of the game again and scored six fine points in the last twelve minutes with Shane Treacy kicking Davitts sole reply.
This was a lively and well contested game with Tommy Waldron, Ronan McNamara, Jack Ronayne, Shane Treacy, Darragh McGale, Evan Ronane and Dmitry Trench impressing for Davitts.
