Minors v Ballinrobe – Match Report
Ballinrobe 4-6 Davitts 2-8
Davitts Minors travelled to Ballinrobe on Sunday and were defeated by four points, after a lively league game. The sides were level with five minutes remaining in the first half but two goals in rapid sucession by the homeside gave them a flattering six point lead at the break, 4-3 to 1-6. Davitts goalscorer was Richie O Connor with Evan Ronayne bagging five excellent points and O Connor getting the other.
The quality of play deteriorated in the second half with tempers fraying and the referee having a very poor day. Some of his decisions were baffling to the frustration of Davitts players, selectors and supporters. Gerald Griffin pointed but Ballinrobe extended their lead with two good points. The dismissal of Davitts midfielder Padraig Mangan was a big blow but a fine Patrick Keadin goal narrowed the gap to four points. Davitts fought to the finish as both teams added a point to their tallies. Ballinrobe ran out the deserving winners but Davitts will know that they can play much better than this.
Davitts best players were Thomas Monaghan, Dylan Keadin, Patrick Keadin, Richie O Connor, Evan Ronayne and Gerald Griffin.
