Minors qualify For South ‘B’ Final
Davitts Minors qualified for the South Mayo B Championship Final after a thrilling 1-18 to 2-12 victory against Ballinrobe in Ballinrobe on Friday evening. Davitts started off well and points from Evan Ronayne (4) and Gerald Griffin had them ahead by 0-5 to 0-2 midway through the first half. However a marvellous purple patch for the homeside, yielding an unanswered 2-3 in the next eight minutes, put them six points up. Davitts rallied well and three more Evan Ronayne points and two from Shane Treacy left Ballinrobe ahead by 2-7 to 0-10 at halftime.
Davitts played with greater spirit in the second half although facing into the wind and a Shane Treacy goal ten minutes into the half proved to be a vital score. The game ebbed and flowed throughout the half and the result was in the balance right up to the final whistle. Patrick Keadin, Shane Treacy, Evan Ronayne (5) and Richie O’Connor added points before the finish to ensure a three point victory over the gallant Ballinrobe team.
Davitts had superb performers in Patrick Keadin, Jack Rodgers, Denis Fahy, Padraig and Michael Mangan, Gerald Griffin, Evan Ronayne and Shane Treacy.
