Minors advance to South Mayo B Final
Davitts minor team advanced to the South Mayo B final after defeating Ballinrobe by 3-17 to 3-10 in an exciting semi-final in Ballindine on Sunday evening. This was a brilliant advertisement for Gaelic football as both sides slugged it out and in all fairness the scoreline flattered Davitts, who really only got on top in the last ten minutes of this absorbing encounter. The sides were level at halftime, Davitts 1-8, Ballinrobe 2-5, with Michael Clarke supplying the home side’s goal after great work by Gerard McWalter and Liam Noone.
Ballinrobe looked the more likely winners of this match until the last quarter when Davitts played some superb football. The introduction of substitutes Padraig Mangan, Matthew Trench and John Huane, who all scored, played a major role as Sean Waldron began to dominate around midfield. Goals from Matthew Trench and Andrew Peters sealed the game for the homeside who got a deserved rapturous applause from their supporters on leaving the pitch.
Every Davitts player played their part in this victory but the performances of Donie Ronayne, Brian Clarke, Sean Waldron, Michael Clarke, man of the match Thomas Waldron, Liam Noone and Padraig Mangan were exceptional, and the management must be applauded for their use of the substitutes.
