Juniors v Shrule Glencorrib – Match Report
Davitts and Shrule Glencorrib met in the first round of the South Mayo Junior championship in Glencorrib on Wednesday evening with the home side coming out on top by 2-11 to 1-10 after an exciting clash. Shrule Glencorrib were by far the better team in the opening half and led by 1-5 to 0-3 at the break with Darren Connolly getting all three Davitts points.
All of the Davitts players upped their performance considerably in the second half and good points from Paul Carey (2), Darren Connolly (3), Shane Mitchell and Matthew Trench and a superb Richie Kilkenny goal saw Davitts ahead by 1-10 to 1-8, after a spirited fight back, with only seven minutes remaining. Shrule Glencorrib then staged a great comeback themselves, and three unanswered points put them ahead deep into stoppage time. They added a goal with the last kick of an entertaining game to claim a four point victory that seemed very unlikely ten minutes earlier.
