Juniors v Knockmore – Match Report

Davitts Juniors travelled to Knockmore in their opening match in Div 4 of the Senior League, coming away with a hard earned 2-8 to 0-13 win.

The sides were level 0-4 each, after the first quarter, with Liam Kearns (3) and Seamus Roche the Davitts scorers. Liam Kearns expertly converted a penalty kick in the 16th minute, after he was fouled, to put Davitts into a three point lead. Knockmore narrowed the gap to a single with two well taken scores but Seamus Roche pointed in the 23rd minute and Ryan McLoughlin goaled a minute later, after great work by Darragh McGale, to put Davitts five ahead. Knockmore rallied and shot the last two points of the half as Davitts led by 2-4 to 0-7 at the interval.

Knockmore came more into the game in the second half but they were always chasing it and the Davitts defence, superbly marshalled by the mobile Lawrence Daly and James Cummins, made the Knockmore attack earn every score. Knockmore added three early second half points but Davitts replied through Liam Kearns. After a barren scoring spell, Liam Kearns, Seamus Roche and Darragh McGale all pointed for the visitors and Knockmore added three of their own before the end, to leave Davitts the one point winners of a well fought contest.

Davitts best players were Lawrence Daly, James Cummins, Shane Mitchell, Sean Waldron, Liam Kearns, Seamus Roche and Darragh McGale.
