Juniors v Kiltane – Match Report
Davitts junior team defeated Kiltane by 3-6 to 0-12 in Bangor on Sunday in the County Junior B Championship, a result that should guarantee qualification to the quarter finals for this young Davitts side. Davitts, minus a number of regulars, showed tremendous spirit against a hard hitting Kiltane side and a superb final twenty minutes performance secured a gutsy victory.
Davitts led by 0-3 to 0-1 after 15 minutes after scores by Darren Connolly, Clive Hennigan and Tommy Mitchell. Kiltane rallied well and led by 0-4 to 0-3 at the interval. This scoreline would have been worse for Davitts but for a superb penalty save by David Mitchell in the last minute of a dour first half.
Kiltane looked the likely winners and extended their lead to 0-9 to 0-3 fifteen minutes into the second half but then the famous Davitts fighting spirit emerged. Young Jack Rogers, making his debut, scored an excellent goal after great work by Johnno Clarke and Seamus Roche. Darren Connolly pointed a free before Rogers struck again, reacting quickest to a ball rebounding of the upright to shoot his second goal, to put Davitts in front. Kiltane rallied but Seamus Roche pointed before Rogers completed his hat trick with a clever finish with five minutes remaining on the clock, to silence the vociferous home crowd. Mark Ronayne completed the scoring for Davitts in what was a very satisfying victory.
Jack Rogers was the star of this victory but Davitts had other excellent performances from David Mitchell, William Freeley, Michael Waldron, Johnno Clarke, Mark Ronayne, John Heneghan, Tommy Mitchell, Seamus Roche and Clive Hennigan.
