Juniors v Kilmaine – Match Report

Kilmaine 3-7 | Davitts 2-4

Davitts travelled to Kilmaine and were defeated by six points by the home side in the South Mayo Junior Championship on Wednesday evening. Kilmaine were much hungrier looking and were full value for their victory. The result means that both sides advance to the Semi-Finals of the competition.

While Davitts midfielders Sean and Michael Waldron won more than their fair share of possession, the attack failed to punish their hosts, especially in the first half when playing with the wind. Aidan McTigue accounted for Davitts first half tally of three points but he and his colleagues missed several clear cut chances and trailed by 1-3 to 0-3 at the break.

Darren Connolly opened the second half scoring with a smartly taken point as John Costello and JP Kirrane fought valiantly in defence but Kilmaine’s tails were up. They goaled twice but so did McTigue to keep Davitts in with a chance. Kilmaine finished the game well to win by 3-7 to 2-4.
