Juniors v Kilconly – challenge – Match Report
Davitts Junior team played an entertaining challenge match against Kilconly juniors in Ballindine on Friday evening and were defeated by 3-13 to 3-10 by the visitors. This was a very useful workout as this team are due to play a county quarter final next weekend. Davitts, minus the services of the minor players, went in at half time behind by 2-6 to 1-6, wing back Mark Ronayne the goalscorer, after excellent build up play involving Johnno Clarke and Tommy Mitchell.
Kilconly extended their lead to ten points midway through the second half but manager Pete Warren sprung his two trump cards, Pat Hopkins and James Kilkenny, from the bench, and these two substitutions coincided with a rousing comeback from the homeside. Terrific goals from the impressive corner forwards Richie Kilkenny and Darren Connolly had Davitts back within two points of the visitors but they just failed to close the gap.
Best for Davitts were Johnno Clarke, Mark Ronayne, John Heneghan, Juan Pablo Kirrane, Seamus Roche, Darren Connolly, Richie Kilkenny and Darragh Halligan.
