Juniors v Hallymount Carramore – Match Report
Davitts 2-13 | Hollymount Carramore 0-9
Davitts qualified for the South Mayo Junior Final after a fine win over Hollymount Carramore in Ballindine on Wednesday evening. After a tight first half in which the visitors looked the better side, Davitts opened up in the second half to record a ten point victory in the end.
Davitts struggled somewhat in the first half with Hollymount Carramore snapping up all the breaks around the middle of the park. A brilliant Liam Noone goal was the crucial score in that first half and points from Darren Connolly (2) and Martin Cosgrove had the sides level at the break, Davitts 1-3 to Hollymount Carramore’s 0-6. It could all have been so different though as Davitts keeper David Mitchell made a superb penalty save in the 20th minute.
Davitts were transformed in the second half and blitzed the opposition from the start. JP Kirrane pointed in the first minute after a great run and Darren Connolly and Liam Noone added points before Connolly goaled with aplomb after a brilliant passing move involving several players. Before the finish Johnno Clarke, Martin Cosgrove, James Cummins, Connolly (2), Noone and young Patrick Keadin had tacked on points to secure a place in the final against either Claremorris or Kilmaine.
All twenty Davitts players had their moments in this game but David Mitchell, Brian Clarke, John Costello, James Cummins, Michael Ronayne, Tommy Clarke, Darren Connolly, Martin Cosgrove, Liam Noone and David McDonagh were particularly effective, especially in the second half.
