Juniors v Garrymore – Match Report

Davitts 3-14 Garrymore 0-9

Davitts Junior team had a fine win over neighbours Garrymore in the South Mayo Championship played in Ballindine on Wednesday evening. Two opportunist goals from Davitts livewire corner forward Aidan McTigue in the first half had Davitts ahead 2-6 to 0-6 at the break. All of the Davitts forwards chipped in with a point each to account for the remainder of the homeside’s first half tally.

Davitts, with the wind assisting them in the second half, were always in control for the rest of the game with midfielders Sean Waldron and Michael Waldron, ably assisted by Shane Mitchell, winning the aerial exchanges around the middle. McTigue completed his hat-trick with five minutes remaining, from the penalty spot, after the very impressive Darren Connolly was hauled down in the square. Davitts second half point scorers were Connolly (2), Liam Noone (2), McTigue (2) and the evergreen David McDonagh (2).

Davitts will have stiffer tests as the season unfolds. All the players showed the right desire on this occasion however with John Costello, James Cummins, JP Kirrane, Liam Noone, Darren Connolly, David McDonagh and Aidan McTigue excelling.
