Juniors v Garrymore – Match Report

Davitts and Garrymore met in the South Mayo Junior Championship in wet and windy Ballindine on Friday evening with the home side coming out on top by two points. The result means that the same two sides will meet in the Semi Final of the competition next Wednesday evening in Garrymore. The game was a very competitive affair played in front of a large attendance with Davitts just about deserving of the win against an under strength yet very impressive Garrymore side.

After playing with the assistance of a stiff breeze, the homeside led by 0-8 to 1-1 at the break, the scores coming via Sean Waldron, Seamus Roche (2), John Costello (2), Gerald Griffin, JP Kirrane and Liam Noone. Davitts looked reasonably comfortable at this stage but a storming opening to the second half by the fired up visitors yielding a goal and a point had the deficit wiped away. Shane Treacy put Davitts ahead again but Garrymore equalized as the exchanges became more competitive.

Fine points from Paul Carey and Seamus Roche put Davitts two up and they hung on in the closing minutes and were very relieved to hear the final whistle. Davitts best players were John Costello, Brian Clarke, Sean Waldron, Shane Treacy, Seamus Roche, Gerald Griffin and Paul Carey.
