Juniors v Claremorris – Match Report
Davitts Junior team defeated a very spirited Claremorris side by 2-8 to 2-6 in the South Mayo Championship in Claremorris on Wednesday evening. The homeside got off to the perfect start with a first minute goal following a mix-up in the Davitts defence. Davitts took a while to settle down but when they did, points from Liam Noone (3), Mark Ronayne, Darren Connolly and Cathal Hennelly, saw them lead at the break, 0-6 to 1-2.
A purple spell early in the second half swung this game firmly in Davitts favour. Although playing into the wind, points from Brian Clarke (a rare commodity), Padraig Mangan and two expertly taken goals from Seamus Roche and Liam Noone put Davitts firmly in control of the game. Claremorris didn’t lie down and battled to the end and reduced the margin to two points before the final whistle.
Davitts best players in a below par performance were William Freeley, Kevin Gallagher, Mark Ronayne, Michael and Padraig Mangan, Liam Noone and Richie Kilkenny.
