Juniors v Claremorris – Match Report

Davitts Junior Team travelled to Claremorris on Wednesday to begin their defence of the South Mayo Championship but were well beaten by a strong home team. Davitts opened the scoring in the fourth minute through Seamus Roche (making a welcome return to football after serious injury) but Claremorris dominated the remainder of the half, aided by the breeze and winning lots of possession in the middle third of the field. They raced into a 0-9 to 0-1 lead by halftime.

As in the first half Seamus Roche opened the second half with a neat point. Davitts played much better in this half with sub William Freeley getting through a lot of good work at midfield. Lawrence Daly, John Costello, Martin Cosgrove and JP Kirrane defended well and Seamus Roche, Aidan McTigue and Jamie Mullee best in attack. Aidan McTigue added two points before the finish as Claremorris ran out convincing 0-14 to 0-4 winners.
