Juniors v Charlestown – Match Report
Davitts Juniors got their Division 1D Senior League campaign off to a winning start with a hard fought 0-9 to 0-8 victory over Charlestown in Ballindine on Sunday. The strong swirling wind made it difficult to play constructive but Davitts led throughout and probably just deserved the win.
First half points from Thomas Waldron (2), Keith Prendergast, Evan Ronayne, Liam Noone and Darren Connolly (2) left Davitts ahead by 0-7 to 0-3 at the break. Davitts had led by 0-5 to 0-0 after fifteen minutes but Charlestown battled back impressively.
In the second half Charlestown had a lot of possession but Davitts defended in numbers and saw out the game well. Liam Noone and Darren Connolly notched Davitts two second half points. The second half also saw the welcome return of Paul Carey after a long absence and he did very well on his comeback to competitive football.
Best for Davitts in this game were Donal Ronayne, Lawrence Daly, JP Kirrane, Micheal Mangan, Thomas Waldron, Liam Noone and Darren Connolly.
