Juniors v Breaffy – Match Report
Davitts played Breaffy in the Quarter-Final of the County Junior B Championship in Claremorris on Saturday evening and won by 0-10 to 0-8 after a tense battle. This game went down to the wire but Davitts deserved the win to advance to the Semi-Final against the winners of the Claremorris v Kilmovee match.
Davitts began the game well, shooting three fine points in the opening minutes through Martin Cosgrove, Paul Carey and Shane Treacy. Breaffy responded with four points but excellent points from Shane Treacy (2) and Tommy Clarke left Davitts ahead by 0-6 to 0-4 at half time.
Breaffy started the second half strongly and three unanswered points put them ahead after ten minutes. Paul Carey equalized as the game began to heat up. Breaffy took the lead again while Davitts kicked a series of bad wides as the game entered the final quarter. Seamus Roche kicked a neat point to tie the match and Paul Carey fired over a great point to the delight of the large Davitts support to put his side in front. Man of the match Shane Treacy added another point before the finish of a game that kept the crowd entertained right up to the final whistle.
Best for Davitts were Patrick Keadin, Brian Clarke, Shane Treacy, Sean Waldron, Paul Carey, Mattie Trench, Tommy Clarke and sub Donal Ronayne.
