Juniors v Balla – Match Report
Davitts and Balla clashed in a junior league tie in Balla on Saturday evening with Davitts coming out on top, 2-8 to 1-8, in a well contested game. The homeside had raced into a 1-5 to 0-0 lead after fifteen minutes of this game and anyone there wouldn’t have given much for Davitts chances at this stage, playing with the wind, but the spirit of these Davitts lads began to show.
Team captain Seamus Roche pointed and this score was followed by a Michael Waldron goal (a cheeky backheel from 2 feet) and another goal from Wallie’s midfield partner Johnno Clarke, to leave only two points in it at halftime, Balla 1-6, Davitts 2-1.
The second half belonged to Davitts and they dominated the game in all sectors. Against the wind they began to run at the Balla boys who could not come to terms with Davitts intensity. Excellent points from Darren Connolly (3), Liam Kearns (3) and Johnno Clarke sealed the win that keeps Davitts in contention for promotion.
A special word of praise to the referee who made sure that the game wouldn’t get out of hand and who dealt sensibly with anything he had to deal with.
Every Davitts player played so well in this game that it would be impossible to pick out the star men.
