Juniors v Achill – Match Report
Achill 0-17 | Davitts 1-5
Davitts were beaten, 0-17 to 1-5, by a strong Achill side in this Senior League Div 1D tie played in Ballindine on Saturday evening. The seriously depleted Davitts team fought hard throughout the game but a ten minute scoring spree by the Achill lads early in the second half, yielding seven unanswered points, swung the game firmly in their favour.
Achill, playing with the breeze, led by 0-6 to 0-1 at halftime, Darren Connolly getting the Davitts point. Two early second half points by the dangerous Connolly narrowed the gap to three points but Achill stepped up the pace. They had extended their lead to ten points before JP Kirrane scored a top class goal, a superb strike after a defence splitting run, to give the homeside some hope. Further points from Connolly and Liam Noone completed the Davitts scoring as top of the table Achill continued their winning run.
This game marked the welcome return of Brian Clarke who had a fine game in defence for Davitts. David Mitchell impressed in goals while Michael Ronayne, William Freeley, Michael Mangan, Lawrence Daly, JP Kirrane and Darren Connolly all played well throughout.
