Davitts 1-14 Ballintubber 1-10
Davitts entertained previously unbeaten Ballintubber in Division 4A of the Senior league on Sunday and, after a fine display, came out on top by four points.
A first minute point by the visitors was matched by a similar score from Davitts energetic midfielder Aidan Macken in the second minute. A Jack Melvin point put Davitts ahead in the fifth minute but Ballintubber replied with a point of their own two minutes later. Shane Treacy fired over a trio of points between the 11th and 15th minutes but Ballintubber levelled matters with a well taken 18th minute goal that gave Davitts keeper John Kilkenny no chance of stopping. Ballintubber now had their tails up and they scored three unanswered points in the next five minutes. Two well taken Johnno Clarke points narrowed the gap to a point before Ballintubber pointed again just before the half time whistle to lead by 1-6 to 0-7 at the break.
Early second half points from Jack Melvin and Shane Treacy levelled the game. Shane Treacy put the home side ahead in the 38th minute but two quick replies saw the lead change hands again. Jack Melvin tied the game again in the 41st minute and we had to wait eight minutes for the next score, a well taken Jack Melvin goal to put Davitts into a three point lead. Ballintubber added two more points before the end of the game with Jack Melvin and Shane Treacy (2) completing the Davitts tally.
This win puts Davitts on top of the table, level on points with Ballintubber. All of the players that played in this game showed serious commitment with superb displays all over the field. Brian Birmingham, Brian Clarke, Donie Ronayne, Liam Macken, Aidan Macken, Shane Treacy, Johnno Clarke and Jack Melvin were excellent in this game.
