Junior League v Claremorris match report
Davitts Junior’s travelled to Claremorris and, after an entertaining encounter, were defeated by 0-13 to 1-9, in Div 5 of the Senior League.
Claremorris opened the scoring with a third minute point but amazingly they didn’t score again until the 26th minute. By this stage Davitts, inspired by the superb Cathal Hennelly had raced into a seven point lead with Hennelly supplying 1-4, the goal from the penalty spot after Tomas Ronayne was fouled and Stephen Nyland firing over a classy point. Claremorris had found their range however and four late points from the homeside left Davitts ahead by 1-6 to 0-6 at halftime.
Points from Cathal Hennelly and Brian Clarke and five Claremorris points had the sides level at the second water break. Claremorris regained the lead in the 46th minute and extended their lead to two points with another in the 54th minute. Cathal Hennelly narrowed the gap a minute later but this was to be the game’s final score. Davitts spurned three good late chances to equalise before referee Mark Tuffy, who had a fine game, blew the final whistle to end a very exciting match.
Best for Davitts were Micheal Hett, Tomas Ronayne, Shane Mitchell, Danny Corless and Cathal Hennelly.
