Davitts 1-7 Hollymount Carramore 1-9
Hollymount Carramore, who possessed a more economical attack, defeated Davitts by two points in this Senior League Div 5 clash played in Ballindine on Sunday. This was a very competitive game with the result in doubt right up to the final whistle.
Johnno Clarke opened the scoring with a first minute point. Hollycarra shot two points before the first water break as excellent defending by both sides ensured that scores were going to be scarce. Davitts Fenton Kelly had a penalty saved in the 21st minute but the same player was pulled down in the square a minute later after a great run, and Fearghal McGrath made no mistake from the spot kick. The visitors pointed three times before the break and Fenton Kelly scored one for Davitts to leave the sides level at half time.
Fearghal McGrath pointed in the 32nd minute but Hollycarra did likewise in the 35th and 37th minutes to regain the lead. Fenton Kelly equalised in the 41st minute but the visitors goaled two minutes later to put them in the driving seat. A 45th minute point extended the lead to four. Johnno Clarke and Shane Mitchell pointed to narrow the gap again. In a tense final few minutes Hollycarra held their nerve, both sides shooting late points, Fearghal McGrath the Davitts scorer, as the visitors claimed the two league points.
Best for Davitts were Micheal Hett, Lawrence Daly, James Cummins, Shane Mitchell, Padraig Mangan, Johnno Clarke, Fenton Kelly and Fearghal McGrath.
