Davitts v Kilmaine – Match Report (not for the feint-hearted)
Davitts: 0-9
Kilmaine: 6-16
This is not a misprint. This was not an U-12 match. Unfortunately this was the second round of the O’Mara Cup and from a Davitts point of view, it can’t get any worse than this. For some reason, too many of the home team appeared disinterested as Davitts suffered arguably their most embarrassing defeat ever at adult level. Thankfully the squad have four weeks to prepare for the Senior League which begins with a trip to Knockmore.
Kilmaine, much the sharper from the off, had raced into a 4-4 to 0-0 lead after 12 minutes, while playing into the wind. By halftime they led by to 4-6 to 0-5, Ronan McNamara (2), Darren Connolly (2) and Keith Prendergast the Davitts point scorers.
Kilmaine didn’t take their foot off the pedal in the second half as they cut through the Davitts defence with ease. For the homeside this was a valuable reminder that your attitude has to be spot on for all games.
Davitts hardest triers in a game best forgotten were David McDonagh, Michael Waldron, Ronan McNamara, Paul Carey, Darren Connolly and the Ronayne brothers Mark and Donal.
