Davitts v Kilmaine – Intermediate Championship
Davitts advanced to the quarter finals of the intermediate championship with a hard earned 1-8 to 0-9 away victory over Kilmaine on Sunday. Davitts, with the aid of the wind, led by 0-6 to 0-3 at half time with Ronan McNamara (3), Michael Conroy (2) and Keith Prendergast the scorers. Kilmaine were back level after ten minutes of the second half and it was all to play for in this hard hitting championship match, well handled by referee Charlie Collins.
Kilmaine went ahead for the first time in the match with four minutes remaining but Paul Carey rescued Davitts with a delightful lob over the Kilmaine goalkeeper with time running out. Davitts had top class performances from goalkeeper Paddy Kirrane who was excellent, Frankie Barrett, Johnno Clarke, James Cummins and the outstanding Colm Boyle in defence, midfielder Ronan McNamara, and Keith Prendergast, Fergal McGrath and Michael Conroy up front, while Paul Carey’s late intervention proved invaluable. Keith Glynn had a brilliant game when introduced in the second half.
