Davitts v Garrymore – Match Report
Davitts 2-10 Garrymore 1-7
Davitts hosted Garrymore on Saturday evening in the Senior League and had a surprisingly easy victory, with the fitness of the homeside, playing Parke next Sunday in the County Intermediate Championship semi final, a significant factor. Davitts, playing with the advantage of the tricky wind in the first half, led by 1-5 to 0-2 at halftime, the goal coming from Michael Conroy after good work from Keith Prendergast and Fergal McGrath, on the stroke of half time. Davitts assumed full control of proceedings in the second half with man of the match Paul Carey and Ronan McNamara dominating the midfield sector, and ran out convincing winners. Davitts second goal came via the boot of the impressive Fergal McGrath, who finished emphatically after being put through by an excellent pass from Liam Kearns. Garrymore’s goal came in injury time when Enda Varley took advantage of a spot of handbags situation, and smashed a 20 metre free kick to an unguarded net. Garrymore’s cause wasn’t helped by injuries to Jimmy Killeen and Tony Corcoran during the game but in fairness Davitts were always on top, keeping their promotion chances alive with two games to play.
Outstanding for the victors were Frankie Barrett, Colm Roche, Jonathon Clarke, the superb Colm Boyle, James Cummins, Ronan McNamara, Paul Carey, Fergal McGrath and Michael Conroy.
Best for Garrymore were Martin Maloney, David Dolan, Caolan Crowe, Mark Tierney, Mark Hyland and Enda Varley.
