Davitts v Claremorris – Junior – Match Report
Davitts Junior team were defeated by Claremorris, 0-9 to 1-4, in the South Mayo Junior Championship match played in Claremorris on Thursday evening. Davitts trailed by a point at half time, 0-4 to 0-3, with Liam Kearns, Pat Hopkins and Tommy Mitchell the scorers. In the second half the Claremorris midfielders got on top as Tommy Mitchell and John Heneghan tired, understandable considering both players heroic efforts in the U-21 match the previous evening. Claremorris added on another four points, with Liam Kearns replying from a free but the game was thrown wide open when Richie Kilkenny goaled with five minutes remaining. Davitts tried hard for the equalising score but shot some poor wides and Claremorris went down the field and tagged on the insurance point.
Best for Davitts were David Mitchell, Tommy Nolan, Laurence Daly, Alan Roche, Tommy Mitchell and Shane Mitchell, while Gerard McWalter and Luke Ronayne did well when introduced in the second half.
