Davitts v Ballaghderreen – Match Report

Davitts 0-10 Ballaghaderreen 1-13

The unerring accuracy of Ballaghaderreen full forward Barry Regan was the main difference between these two sides in this Senior League Div 1A game played in difficult windy conditions in Ballindine on Sunday.

Davitts led by 0-6 to 0-2 at halftime after playing with the assistance of the strong wind in the first half. The impressive Josh Ronayne (4), David McDonagh and Ronan McNamara accounting for the homeside’s first half tally with Regan scoring the two Ballagh points.

Regan narrowed the gap to two points in the opening minutes of the second half before Thomas Waldron and Keith Prendergast for Davitts and Michael Tyrrell and Cormac Doohan for Ballagh exchanged points. Regan scored twice in the 12th and 14th minutes to level it before Josh Ronayne put Davitts ahead again. Tyrrell equalised again in the 18th minute and James Kilcullen and Regan put Ballagh two up with six minutes remaining. Ballagh sealed the win with a questionable goal in the 25th minute. Doohan’s attempted punched pass across the goalmouth to Tyrrell got caught in the wind and appeared to go straight to the net without a touch. Referee Declan Corcoran, after consultation with an umpire, allowed the goal to stand, to the delight of the Ballaghaderreen players. Ballagh added another point from Regan before the finish with McNamara replying for Davitts.
