Congrats to Boyler on his All Star nomination
The Club would like to congratulate Colm Boyle on becoming the second Davitts player (the first being the legendary Alan Roche in 1999) to receive a GAA All Star nomination. Boyler has really made a name for himself at Inter County level after some outstanding showings in the Green and Red of Mayo in 2012. Many pundits, journalists and fans alike adjudged Colm’s performance in the All Ireland Final against Donegal as being worthy as Mayo’s Man of the Match. Earlier in the year, Boyler’s ‘Never Say Die’ attitude was exemplified by the goal he scored in the final minutes of extra time against Kerry in the Semi-Final of the National League in April, managing to place the ball past the Kerry goalie with 4 Kerry defenders hanging off him! Few would deny that he drove Mayo to victory that day, leading from the back and scoring an impressive tally of 1-1.
The final team of 15 All Stars will be selected on Wednesday, October 24. Best of luck Colm.
One man who can consider himself somewhat unlucky for not securing an All Star nomination himself is our other County player, Michael Conroy. Mike scored some lovely points for Mayo during the year (and threw in a goal or two against Down); his movement around the inside forward line proved troublesome for established corner backs. Hopefully, Michael can cement his place on the Mayo team in 2013, and be in contention for next year’s awards.
