Height 6’2”

Weight 15 st.

Where do we start with this fella? A tremendous servant for the club for decades, Disco made his name a top midfielder. After a break (retirement) from first team football, Mark was coaxed back by Pete Warren last year and re-invented himself as a commanding goalkeeper. Had a tremendous season last year during Davitts successful championship run with his experience being used to great effect and he improved as a goalie with every game. Coaxed out of retirement again this season by the persuasive management team and will be a vital cog as Davitts attempt to consolidate their senior status. A black belt in Karaoke, who present could ever forget his duet with John Treacy as they butchered the classic “Spirit In The Sky” in the Borderline many years ago? (leave the Karaoke to the experts boys!!).

Paul Carey

Age 30

Height 5’10”

Weight 13st 5lb

PC is a hugely influential player for the club who has represented the county at all grades. Strong, tough, determined and forceful player who can play in a number of positions. Formed a great relationship with his partner Ronan Mac last year (at midfield that is). Has a very dangerous left boot and an extremely harmless right one. Has become a better player since his on field discipline improved but is still a formidable opponent in the physical side of the game. Paul talked himself onto the Club’s Committee at the last AGM and does a lot of work with the underage teams.

Michael Ronayne

Age: 24

Height: 5’9”

Weight: 12st 6lbs

Michael (also known as Teddy) is a strong, disciplined and dependable defender who reads a game superbly. He is a great example of a player that does the simple things well and is pushing hard for a regular starting place on the senior team. The Kilmacnella man (younger brother of Luke) is a key member of the junior team currently unbeaten in the league, “mopping up” any ball that comes his way. Developed a slight scouse accent after the team’s trip to Liverpool before Christmas.

Carlos O’Gara

Age 32

Height 6’3”

Weight 14st 3lbs

Carlos is a great ball winning forward with an outstanding workrate who is often compared to Tyrone’s Brian Dooher. Not a prolific scorer himself but his intelligent play creates lots of scoring chances for his teammates. A teacher by profession, Mr. O Gara is also a Davitts Committee member. Carlos is the chairman of the Ballindine branch of the Tottenham Hotspurs fan club which also includes Tom Dandy Kearns, Alan Goggins, Derek Stephens and Lucien Powers.

Aidan McTigue

Age: 25

Height: 5’ 9’’

Weight 12st

Aidan is a dynamic corner forward, deceptively strong and possessing a sensational burst of pace, making him a nightmare for corner backs. A former St. Colmans College and Sligo I.T. star, Aidan was unfortunate to miss out on Davitts All-Ireland Intermediate final appearance through illness. Son of former Davitts great Frank, the popular Aidan (also known as McFly) is an avid darts player who represents Hanleys Bar in the South Mayo darts league, coached by the legendary Dermot O Sullivan Jnr (Sulley). Recently spotted on Sky Sports with a cryptic message for teammate Michael Conroy.

NEW FEATURE! Player profile - Ronan McNamara

This week sees the start of Senior player profiles. The upgraded Davitts GAA Club website (coming your way in June) will feature a dedicated page where all player will be stored and added to as new profiles become available. To kick-off the series, who better to start with, then the Senior team Captain for 2012…

Ronan McNamara

Age: 29

Height: 6’ 5’’

Weight: 15st 9lbs

Occupation: Garda

Ronan has been a top first team player for Davitts for the last twelve seasons although serious injuries to his back and both knees has interrupted his football career somewhat. One of the outstanding midfielders in the county, Ronan has represented Mayo at all grades. His fielding ability and superb long range shooting both from open play and placed balls makes Ronan a hugely valuable player and the commitment he gives the club is a great example to the younger players. Honoured with the first team captaincy this year, Ronan is keen to make his mark as Davitts return to the senior ranks in Mayo. As well as Gaelic football, Ronan is a big fan of Irish dancing, and follows the career of his idol, Michael Flatley very closely. No mean dancer himself and regularly takes to the dancefloor on social occasions, he memorably danced himself to a standstill at the club’s Dinner Dance three years ago.
