Senior v Lahardane match report
Davitts 1-10 Lahardane 0-8
Davitts were missing a number of regulars when they hosted Lahardane in the Senior League Div 2B on Saturday evening but secured the two league points to continue their unbeaten run. A tour de force first quarter performance from Niall Treacy and a superb defensive display throughout, with the outstanding Micheal Hett, Jordan Flanagan and Shane Treacy in top form, laid the foundations for this victory.
After Lahardane, playing against the wind in the opening half, opened the scoring with a second minute point, Davitts scored three points between the third and fifth minutes courtesy of Niall Treacy (2) and Cathal Corless, another player to impress. A seventh minute point from the visitors was cancelled out by the rampant Niall Treacy within a minute. Lahardane pointed again in the 10th minute with Treacy replying for the homeside and after Lahardane scored another point in the 13th minute Treacy struck for the game’s crucial score, a 14th minute goal which gave his team some breathing space.
The next score came in the 20th minute with Davitts goalkeeper Ronan McNamara, looking at home in his new position, pointing a long range free kick. Two Lahardane points sandwiched a neat Evan Ronane score to leave Davitts ahead by 1-7 to 0-6 at the break.
The second half was a cagey affair with Davitts playing conservatively, content to preserve their lead. A number of missed chances by the visitors didn’t help their cause. Jack Ronayne opened the scoring with a 34th minute free kick for Davitts. Lahardane pulled one back two minutes later but Jack Ronayne shot another point in the 42nd minute to restore the homeside’s five point lead. A 46th minute Lahardane point was to be their last score of the game with the Davitts lads defending impressively. Ronan McNamara scored the last point of the game in the 59th minute, converting another long range free as Davitts eased to victory.
Next up is an away trip to league leaders Belmullet in two weeks time.
