Juniors v Kilfian – Match Report

Davitts Junior team met Kilfian in the final group game of the B Championship on Sunday in Foxford and while Davitts won an exciting game by 1-13 to 2-9, they failed to qualify for the Quarter finals, losing out on score difference.

Davitts made the early running and went in ahead by 0-6 to 0-3 at the break with Liam Kearns (2), Tommy Clarke (2), Shane Mitchell and Seamus Roche pointing.

Davitts played some great football in the third quarter and one of their many sweeping moves resulted in team captain Martin Cosgrove, who had a terrific game, firing home his side’s only goal of the game. Kilfian replied with a goal but well taken points from Liam Kearns, Tommy Clarke, Martin Cosgrove, Michael Conroy, Dara O Flaherty and Liam Noone for Davitts stretched the lead to six points but Kilfian fought back admirably. They goaled and then added two points to narrow the gap to a single point. Ryan McLoughlin goaled for Davitts but this was disallowed but Michael Conroy fired over another point as the game entered injury time. Kilfian attacked again and pointed but Davitts held on.

Outstanding for Davitts in this game were Brian Clarke, Martin Cosgrove, Daniel Huane, Shane Mitchell, William Freeley, Mattie Trench and Tommy Clarke.
