Crossmolina made the trip to Ballindine for their opening Senior League Division 1A game against Davitts a winning one when defeating the homeside by five points.
The visitors started well with points from Fionan Duffy and the ageless Peadar Gardiner before Evan Ronane pulled one back for Davitts in the 7th minute. The next score came in the 15th minute and it was a crucial one with Brian Benson goaling after some slick attacking movement from the North Mayo men. Davitts responded well, shooting the next three points courtesy of Evan Ronane and Liam Kearns (2), to narrow the gap to two but Crossmolina closed the half with three points in the final three minutes from Tom Cafferkey, David Howley and Fionan Duffy to lead by 1-6 to 0-4 at the break.
Crossmolina goaled again two minutes into the second half with Dean Loftus applying the finish after the Davitts defence was opened up again. A Liam Kearns point in the 12th minute for Davitts was cancelled out a minute later by Michael Loftus. Colm Boyle, Liam Kearns and Ronan McNamara all pointed to leave five points between the sides with ten minutes remaining. Some great play by Ronan McNamara and Colm Boyle set up a goal chance for Evan Ronane but his shot was saved superbly by Shane Keane the Crossmolina goalie whose defenders managed to scramble away Boyle’s punched attempt from the rebound before sweeping up the field and pointing through Fionan Duffy, to kill off the homeside.
Conor Loftus and Brian Benson pointed for Crossmolina before Cathal Hennelly replied for Davitts before the final whistle.
Crossmolina had fine performances from Stephen Duffy, Peadar Gardiner, Tommy Cafferkey, Jordan Flynn, Martin McAndrew, Brian Benson and Fionan Duffy.

Davitts and Aughamore met in the County U-14 Feile in Garrymore on Saturday morning with Davitts prevailing by 0-5 to 0-2 after a dour game played in lovely conditions. Davitts struggled to come to grips with Aughamore’s ultra defensive tactics and classy points from Dylan Gallagher and Jack Devane were Davitts only scores in the first half as the sides were level, 0-2 apiece, at the interval. Indeed, were it not for a superb save by Davitts custodian Tristan Diskin, his side might have been trailling at the break.
Davitts took over in the second half with the strong running Fenton Kelly and John Wallace in top form at midfield. Points from Fenton Kelly and a brace from the impressive Jack Devane saw the game out with defenders Fionan Gallagher, Cathal Corless, Thomas Ronayne and Brian Og McTigue in no nonsense form. Davitts now advance to the County Semi-Final in two weeks time.
Davitts: Tristan Diskin, Fionn McLoughlin, Fionan Gallagher, Brian Og McTigue, Cathal Devane, Thomas Ronayne, Cathal Corless, Fenton Kelly (0-1), John Wallace, Joe Prendergast, Jack Devane (0-3), Bon Glynn, Dylan Gallagher (0-1), Jack Melvin, Brian Eagney. Subs used: Ian Prendergast, Ryan Rattigan.
Davitts U-14 team won their second game in a row in the County League when they made light work of The Neale in Cong on Thursday evening. Davitts won the game by 8-19 to 1-2.
Davitts took control from the off with John Wallace (1-0) and Fenton Kelly (0-2) taking command around the midfield.
Davitts forwards were in top shooting form with Jack Melvin (3-3), Jack Devane (1-5), Dylan Gallagher (1-2), Joe Prendergast (1-1), Davy Hennessy (0-3) and Brian Eagney (1-0) inflicting most agony on the homeside. Bon Glynn, while not finding the target himself, was involved in a lot of the good attacking play.
The Davitts defence were in mean form in front of goalie Tristan Diskin. Cathal Corless (0-2), Micheal Hett, Ian Prendergast, Brian Og McTigue (0-1), Thomas Ronayne and Fionan Gallagher were solid throughout with subs Cathal Devane and Ryan Rattigan playing their part as Davitts made it two from two in the League.
Tougher tests lie ahead for this team but they have performed very impressively in their opening two games.
