Minors v Ballinrobe – Match Report

The large number of Davitts supporters who decided to forsake Coronation Street and Eastenders on Monday evening to attend the Minor League Div 2 game against Ballinrobe, were rewarded with a superb performance from the homeside in Ballindine. Davitts won by 0-15 to 0-4 in a game played in atrocious conditions.

Davitts, wind assisted in the first half raced into a 0-10 to 0-1 lead by halftime. The entire forwardline were very impressive and all of them registered scores in the opening period as well as the very influential midfielder Thomas Waldron. The Davitts defence withstood everything that the visitors threw at them in the second half and scored five further points via Evan Ronayne (2), Cathal Hennelly, Thomas Waldron and Gerald Griffin.

Michael Mangan was a very reliable goalie and in front of him Dylan Keadin and Donal Ronayne were magnificent in the corner back positions. Jack Rodgers, Padraig Mangan and John Huane formed a solid half back line. Thomas Waldron and William Freeley worked extremely hard at midfield and the forwardline linked well and took their chances when they came.

Davitts: Michael Mangan, Dylan Keadin, Donal Ronayne, Jack Rodgers, Padraig Mangan, John Huane, Thomas Waldron (0-2), William Freeley, Cathal Hennelly (0-3), Michael Clarke (0-3), Evan Ronayne (0-4), Liam Noone (0-1), Gerald Griffin (0-2). Subs used: Patrick Keadin, Richie O Connor, Jonathon Fahy.

Seniors v Knockmore – Match Report

Davitts and Knockmore clashed for the second time in two weeks, this time in the Secondary League, in Ballindine on Saturday. Knockmore got some measure of revenge for the Senior League defeat, with a two point victory in a game played in difficult conditions.

Knockmore were much the better side in the first half and led by 1-5 to 1-1 at halftime, having played against the pretty strong wind. Davitts scores came from an opportunist Josh Ronayne goal and a long range free from Ronan McNamara, as Knockmore looked the hungrier and sharper outfit.

Knockmore tagged on two early second half points and things looked grim for Davitts facing the wind but they played with great spirit and conviction for the remainder of the game. David Mitchell had another fine game in goals. Colm Roche, Donie Ronayne and Cathal Higgins were excellent in defence as Paul Carey and Ronan McNamara began to lord the midfield area, while  Keith Prendergast was on top of his game at centre half forward getting good help from Liam Kearns and Andrew Peters. Points from Prendergast (4), an absolute beauty from Andrew Peters and another Ronan McNamara special narrowed the gap to one point but Knockmore recovered from the onslaught and had the last point in a very competitive game to win by 1-9 to 1-7.

Davitts team: David Mitchell, Colm Roche, Michael Ronayne, Donie Ronayne, Cathal Higgins, Johnno Clarke, Mark Ronayne, Ronan McNamara (0-2), Paul Carey, Josh Ronayne (1-0), Keith Prendergast (0-4), Liam Kearns, Darren Connolly, Fearghal McGrath, Andrew Peters (0-1). Subs used: Michael Waldron, Thomas Waldron, Richie Kilkenny.

Luke “Twinkle-Toes” Ronayne dances for charity…

Fresh from his success in the Davitts Mr. & Mrs. Pageant recently, Luke Ronayne will demonstrate his versatility in the Dalton Inn on Saturday night (April 13th) as he attempts to add the ‘Come Dance With Me’ title to his name, when he and Lisa Carey strut their stuff on the dance floor. It is in aid of Red Cross and we hope that the Red Cross won’t be required for any of the contestants on the night. Luke who is known as a bit of a Twinkle-Toes on the football field, appears to be in peak condition for this event. Luke and Lisa have promised their fans that they have some moves put together that would put the likes of Ricky Martin and Shakira (not the Ballindine version) to shame. It is rumoured that Lisa’s brother Paul is their chief choreographer although Luke’s brother Michael has also been helping him out with some of the more exotic moves. We wish Luke and Lisa the best of luck in what should be a fun night and a big Davitts crowd should be there to cheer them on while supporting this worthy cause.
