Davitts hit four unanswered points via Josh Ronayne (2), Seamus Roche and David McDonagh to secure a slender one point halftime lead.

Swinford started the second half brightly and led by a point after five minutes before Davitts took the game by the scruff of the neck and, thanks to the promptings of Michael Ronayne, Mark Ronayne, Tommy Nolan, James Cummins, Michael Waldron, Seamus Roche, Josh Ronayne, Carlos O Gara and Liam Kearns, finished the game strongly to gain another deserved win.

U-16’s v St. Gerards – Match Report

Davitts U-16 team maintained their 100% winning record in the league, defeating St. Gerards by 3-13 to 3-8 in Carramore on Tuesday evening. Davitts struggled for long periods in this match with the St. Gerards goalkeeper performing heroics, and the sides were level at halftime, St. Gerards 2-3, Davitts 1-6, the Davitts goal coming via midfielder Jack Rodgers after a sweeping move.

An early St. Gerards goal had Davitts under pressure in the second half but the team showed great spirit to hang on and finish the game out well. Davitts trailed by three points with five minutes remaining but a tremendous Gerard Griffin goal, after excellent work by the outstanding Seanie Burke, left the sides level. Griffin goaled again before the finish as Davitts ended the game in style, gaining another two very hard earned league points.

In this game Davitts best players were Dylan Keadin, Dylan Higgins, Seanie Burke, Padraig Mangan, Jack Rodgers, Evan Ronayne and Gerard Griffin.

Juniors v Eastern Gaels – Match Report

Davitts Junior team recorded their second victory in a row in Division 1E of the Senior League, defeating neighbours Eastern Gaels by 1-10 to 2-3 in Ballindine on Saturday evening. Davitts won the toss and elected to play with the strong wind in the first half but trailed by 1-0 to 0-1 after 15 minutes against a fired up Gaels side. The homeside finally got going, registering 1-5 without reply before the break, with Liam Kearns and Josh Ronayne in magnificent form in attack. Davitts goal came in the 18th minute, when Kearns fielded a Johnno Clarke delivery and fired in an unstoppable effort from 20 metres.

Davitts played their best football after the break with captain for the day, Tommy Mitchell outstanding at midfield, and he and John Heneghan bossed this sector for most of the second half, getting magnificent back up from James Cummins, Carlos O Gara and Mark Ronayne. Superb scores from Kearns (2), Josh Ronayne and sub Dara Halligan kept the scoreboard ticking over as the Gaels found it difficult to penetrate the home defence where Tommy Nolan and Michael Ronayne were in impressive form.

Davitts team: David Mitchell, Michael Ronayne, Tommy Nolan, Mark Ronayne, Johnno Clarke, James Cummins, Martin Cosgrove, John Heneghan (0-1), Tommy Mitchell, Jason Connolly, Josh Ronayne (0-2), Carlos O Gara, Darren Connolly, Liam Kearns (1-5), Richie Kilkenny (0-1). U-16’s v Cill Chomáin – Match Report

Davitts U-16 team had another big league win on Tuesday evening, defeating Cill Chomáin by 9-14 to 1-7 in Ballindine. Amazingly, at halftime, Davitts were behind by a point, 1-6 to 1-5, after playing against the wind in the first half. After the resumption the home side assumed complete control with midfielders Padraig Mangan and Jack Rodgers in top form.

The Davitts forwardline opened up the Cill Chomáin defence and scored freely, while at the back the defenders gave nothing away. Dylan Keadin and Seanie Burke excelled in that defence and got great support from Dylan Higgins, Denis Fahy and Jamie Mullee, while goalkeeper Thomas Monaghan had a fine game.

Gerard Griffin, Mikie Devane, Evan Ronayne, Richie O Connor and Shane Treacy all played superbly in a slick forwardline as Davitts made it two wins from two games.

Davitts team: Thomas Monaghan, Dylan Keadin, Dylan Higgins, Denis Fahy, Seanie Burke, Jamie Mullee, Padraig Mangan (1-3), Jack Rodgers (1-0), Gerard Griffin (1-2), Mikie Devane (1-5), Evan Ronayne (1-3), Richie O Connor (1-1), Shane Treacy (3-0). Subs used: Lorcan Diskin, Conor Macken.

Minors v Carras – Match Report

Davitts minor team played neighbours Carras (Kilmaine/Garrymore amalgamation) in the county league in Ballindine on Monday evening, with the two teams sharing the spoils in a very entertaining game. The final score of 4-9 each seemed a very unlikely outcome as the game entered injury time with the home side leading by six points, but credit to Carras for hanging in and snatching two very late goals, the second one from the last kick of the game, five minutes into injury time.

Carras got off to a flying start and goaled in the 2nd minute but Davitts replied swiftly with goals from the excellent Andrew Peters and wing back Gerard McWalter. Davitts scored two more classy goals via Tommy Waldron and Matthew Trench to lead by 4-4 to 1-5 at halftime.

The turning point of the game came early in the second half when Davitts star forward Tommy Waldron received his marching orders from ref John Boyle in what appeared to be a relatively innocuous incident. Carras chipped away at the lead and were rewarded for their efforts with those two late goals.

Michael Mangan had a fine game in Davitts goals while in front of him county star Donie Ronayne and Brian Clarke were very efficient. Team captain Cathal Higgins was superb at centre back getting great assistance from unlikely goalscorer Gerard McWalter and John Macken. Sean Waldron was a colossus at midfield until he tired near the end and his partner William Freely ensured that Davitts held the edge in this sector for most of the game. Up front, Michael Clarke, man of the match Andrew Peters, Matthew Trench, Liam Noone and Tommy Waldron, up to his dismissal, played some great football, though Davitts will be annoyed at not winning this game.

Davitts team: Michael Mangan, Donie Ronayne, Brian Clarke, Gerard McWalter (1-0), Cathal Higgins, John Macken, William Freeley, Sean Waldron, Michael Clarke (0-2), Andrew Peters (1-1), Matthew Trench (1-0), Liam Noone (0-5), Tommy Waldron (1-1). Subs used: Gearoid Lyons, Shane Cummins.
