Davitts … 1-13

Killala … 0-13

Davitts, already guaranteed top spot in the group stage of the Intermediate Championship, struggled to defeat a brave Killala side in Ballindine on Sunday. The homeside kicked sixteen wides in the game and will have to improve on this aspect of their play if they are to progress further in this competition. Killala started brightly with impressive midfielder Andrew Farrell and Rory Hannick in top scoring form and raced into a 0-4 to 0-1 lead before Davitts star Michael Conroy placed David McDonagh for a well taken goal in the ninth minute. It was tit for tat for the remainder of the half and the sides went in level 1-5 to 0-8 at halftime.

Killala looked the more likely winners for most of the second half, winning a lot of possession around the middle of the field, and Hannick causing panic in the Davitts defence whenever he got the ball. Points by Hannick (3) and Farrell for Killala put them three up with 12 minutes remaining but then Davitts began to show their true form, finishing the game in style with excellent points from Ronan McNamara (2), Aidan McTigue (2) and three from captain Michael Conroy, to see them through.

Best for Davitts were Martin Cosgrove, Ronan McNamara, Paul Carey, Pat Coyne, Aidan McTigue and Michael Conroy.

Killala’s best players were Michael Dooher, Keith McLoughlin, Gary Ferguson, Andrew Farrell, Alex Quinn and the outstanding Rory Hannick.

Minors v Breaffy – Match Report

Davitts Minor team played Breaffy in the Summer League in Ballindine on Friday evening and will wonder how they managed to lose, having led by four points with five minutes remaining, but an unanswered goal and four points by the visitors gave them the two league points. Breaffy got the first score of the game, a goal in the 3rd minute, but Davitts dominated the remainder of the first half and led by 2-4 to 1-0 at halftime, Darren Connolly and the very impressive William Freeley the goalscorers. Sean Waldron and Mark Ronayne were doing well at midfield while the attack looked very lively.

Breaffy kept in touch in the second half thanks to a couple of goals but Davitts still looked in control as the game entered the closing minutes. That final flurry by Breaffy however turned the game on its head as they finished strongly. Best for Davitts were David Mitchell, Brian Clarke, Donie and Mark Ronayne, Jason Connolly, Sean Waldron, William Freeley, Darren Connolly and Thomas Waldron.

Davitts team: David Mitchell, Brian Clarke, Donie Ronayne, Gerard McWalter, Cathal Higgins, Jason Connolly, Sean Waldron, Mark Ronayne (0-1), William Freeley (1-0), Liam Noone (0-2), Thomas Waldron (0-2), Darren Connolly (1-2), Clive Hennigan (0-2). Sub used: Gearoid Lyons (0-1).
