100% record for Davitts in Championship – just about
Davitts … 1-13
Killala … 0-13
Davitts, already guaranteed top spot in the group stage of the Intermediate Championship, struggled to defeat a brave Killala side in Ballindine on Sunday. The homeside kicked sixteen wides in the game and will have to improve on this aspect of their play if they are to progress further in this competition. Killala started brightly with impressive midfielder Andrew Farrell and Rory Hannick in top scoring form and raced into a 0-4 to 0-1 lead before Davitts star Michael Conroy placed David McDonagh for a well taken goal in the ninth minute. It was tit for tat for the remainder of the half and the sides went in level 1-5 to 0-8 at halftime.
Killala looked the more likely winners for most of the second half, winning a lot of possession around the middle of the field, and Hannick causing panic in the Davitts defence whenever he got the ball. Points by Hannick (3) and Farrell for Killala put them three up with 12 minutes remaining but then Davitts began to show their true form, finishing the game in style with excellent points from Ronan McNamara (2), Aidan McTigue (2) and three from captain Michael Conroy, to see them through.
Best for Davitts were Martin Cosgrove, Ronan McNamara, Paul Carey, Pat Coyne, Aidan McTigue and Michael Conroy.
Killala’s best players were Michael Dooher, Keith McLoughlin, Gary Ferguson, Andrew Farrell, Alex Quinn and the outstanding Rory Hannick.
